Canada Invests $101 Million in Alberta Reforestation Efforts

Canada’s federal government is boosting reforestation in Alberta with an additional $101 million investment in the 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program.

Corey Hogan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced the funding at the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area – a key beneficiary of these efforts.

The new funds will prioritize projects across the province, including on the Siksika Nation and marginal farmland, aiming to restore balance and foster renewed connections with nature.

Local groups like the Junior Forest Wardens will get critical support for their annual tree planting in Calgary, while industry partners such as Pembina Pipeline and Kiros Pipelines are leveraging these initiatives for environmental and economic gains through carbon credits.

Business leaders, including Deborah Yedlin, highlight tree planting’s role in employee engagement, sustainability, and strengthening Calgary’s tourism appeal.

Calgary Stampede 2025: A Celebration of Tradition and Economic Impact

The Calgary Stampede once again energized Calgary, Alberta in July 2025, drawing 1,470,288 visitors for its iconic ten-day festival.

Though attendance slightly trailed last year’s record, the city enjoyed an economic windfall of approximately $227 million and broader contributions of $282 million province-wide.

Founded by Guy Weadick in 1912, the Stampede celebrated Western tradition with world-class rodeos, vibrant parades, and unforgettable musical acts.

The Indigenous Village saw unprecedented engagement, as 300,000+ guests connected with Treaty 7 First Nations culture through dance and storytelling.

Contestants competed for a record-breaking $3.5 million prize purse, with Brazil’s Paulo Ferreira capturing rodeo gold.

Festival organizers proudly reported a new sustainability milestone, diverting 85% of event waste from landfill.

Animal welfare protests remained vocal, prompting the Stampede to emphasize improved safety protocols.

Plans are already in motion for 2026, promising even greater international flair and enhanced visitor experiences.
